Try Out to be a 2018 DRL Pilot with the DRL Simulator

The top pilot will also win a $75,000 contract.

I haven't seen or heard much news from The Drone Racing League (DRL) this past year, at least to the amount that I'd been hearing in years past. In fact, the sport of multi-rotor/drone racing as a whole hasn't popped up on my radar much in 2017. Until now.

The Swatch/DRL series has kicked off tryouts for their 2018 season, and they're taking place within the DRL Simulator on Steam. This PC and Mac-based sim has been updated to reflect the latest quadcopter tech being used in actual DRL events and also features a number of other updates.

The arenas and courses which appear in the game are also those featured during DRL events, so you're getting a true-to-life experience with this sim.

The simulator costs $19.99 and can be purchased through the Steam Store. That can be thought of as a small investment since the winner will be granted a $75,000 contract for the 2018 season. Not a bad tradeoff, if you ask me.

Whether or not you're able to win the competition, the simulator appears to be a solid training tool to get the feel for piloting one of these high-speed multi-rotor racers.

Official details on this competition can be found on the DRL website and on the DRL Simulator news page.
