Too Cool: Watch an R/C Boat Do its Thing in Snow [Video]

By: Tim Gluth

Winter is the season that always brings a challenge for R/C fanatics. Do we brave the elements to get our hobby fix, or do we stay inside to wrench, build, and prepare our vehicles for warmer weather? No matter which side of that argument you side with, there's no wrong answer.

While fans of surface and off-road radio-controlled machines fare better in snowy conditions, there's hope for R/C mariners, too. Why not toss a boat into the snow and let 'er rip?

Hobbyist McDon_RC has been making waves with his video of a radio-controlled catamaran boat (a Voltanex V792-4 70cm Atomic) motoring its way through the snow. You read that right, R/C boats can handle snow (and quite well, judging by this footage):

This boat doesn't show any signs of struggle as it blasts through the snow, however, your mileage may vary if you want to try this for yourself. In the intro to the video, McDon_RC states that catamaran-style boats can make the jump to snow. There also may be additional wear and tear happening to the hull, motor, and propellor.

Regardless, this is a very cool video and an excellent showcase of the fun this hobby can provide, even when conditions aren't ideal.
