Meet the Winner of Hobbico's "House Racer Challenge"
As interest in R/C quadcopters continues to grow, many brands are looking for ways to showcase the excitement of flight. One unique endeavor was Hobbico’s recently announced “House Racer Challenge”, a competition centered around their latest entry-level FPV quadcopter, the RISE Vusion House Racer.
The House Racer Challenge was a video-based contest, focusing on indoor course design and FPV footage, not to mention the House Racer aircraft ($179.99) and House Racer FPV Race Gate System ($39.99). Making this challenge even more enticing was the prize, a cool $5,000.
After a number of entries were submitted, the panel of judges selected their champion. Juan Torres of Kissimmee, FL. As you can see from the video below, he’s got a passion for R/C flight, and even owns a “traditional” radio-controlled helicopter.
“I went outside, answered the phone and started shaking and yelling, ‘Dude, I won the House Racer Challenge! I won the $5,000!’ It was so exciting,” he exclaimed.
Torres flies model airplanes and helis in addition to the House Racer indoor drone. He also enjoys photography and piloting full-size aircraft.
“Flying FPV is the closest thing to flying a real airplane. With FPV, everything changes...it makes you reach places you can’t reach by yourself – but you can with your quad. It’s an adventure to me. It’s adrenaline. I recommend the House Racer to anyone! I want people
to feel the excitement I’m feeling,” said Torres.
After purchasing his House Racer and Gates at RC Addiction Products in Maitland, Florida, Torres and his wife, Maritza, were hard at work setting up a challenging course for the winning video. After the video was finished, Maritza was bitten by the FPV bug. “She likes to fly around the house, hovering and doing turns,” said Torres.
