Losi Launches the Promoto MX 1/4 R/C Dirt Bike
Well, I didn't see this one coming. Losi sent ripples through the R/C world with the release of its Promoto MX, an ultra-realistic, 1/4-scale radio-controlled motocross bike. If you've ever dreamt of owning an R/C motorcycle, whether on-road or off, this looks like the perfect machine.
While this isn't the first R/C dirt bike to hit the scene, it might be the first to get this genre right. This bike looks spot-on when compared to a 1:1 MX machine. This is one visually stunning piece from the knobby tires and wire-spoke-style wheels to the wishbone front suspension and chain-driven drivetrain.
Scale fanatics will also love the addition of a 1/4-scale rider that's decked out in a motocross rider uniform, helmet, and goggles.
Of course, creating a visually appealing machine would be for naught if it didn't perform. On that topic, Losi appears to have done their homework. A lot of it. The Promoto MX is packed with electronics to help you get the hang of driving a two-wheeled R/C motorcycle without frustration.
Powered by a 2700kv brushless motor, this bike utilizes gyroscopic force to keep itself upright and handling as expected. A cable-driven front brake is borrowed from the 1:1 world.
The front and rear shocks are set up to handle impacts similar to those encountered on a full-size motorbike. Additionally, Losi has built-in some nice features into the rear fender and chassis to aid with cooling and durability.
The Promoto MX also features a DX3PM controller and SR6300PM receiver, incorporating MS6X technology. This new tech allows the bike to maintain balance while ripping around a track or launching off of jumps.
Of course, owners of this R/C motocross bike will want to customize it to match their personalities. Along with the launch of the Promoto MX, Losi and Pro-Line are launching a selection of hop-up and option parts to let you make your ride your own.
