A Petition to Help Save "Mike's Hobby Shop"
Listening to the latest episode of the Radio Impound Podcast, they covered a serious topic of eminent domain and how that is forcing a popular hobby shop (and massive raceplex) into a questionable future. Mike Darnell's shop, Mike's Hobby Shop in Carrollton, TX is battling for it's survival as it faces an impending move and closure for a yet-to-be-deteremined amount of time until a new location, building, and amenities can be set up.
From having multiple race tracks on-site, having a setup for indoor flying, and extending expertise to local Cub Scouts by holding Pinewood Derby car-building clinics, this location is a home away from home for many folks. The circumstances that surround it's future appear very cloudy and uncertain. I find this to be very disturbing.
I don't know Mike personally, but from what I've seen and heard about his shop, it's a beauty. Beyond that, it's a place where many hobbyists in that area go to race, tune, and just kick back and immerse themselves in their R/C cars. The community that exists in this hobby is one of the best I have ever encountered, and there's something you can do to show your support for Mike and his business.
A petition has been started on Change.org to show how many people stand behind this business and if you feel strongly about supporting a fellow hobbyist, please take a few minutes and sign the petition.
