Reloaded: My '68 Ford Mustang HPI Micro RS4 Overhaul
Sometimes you come across a deal that's too good to pass up, even though it might come with a few caveats. My latest R/C garage addition, my HPI Micro RS4 'Stang is a perfect example of this occurance. Purchased from the "Scratch and Dent" section of TowerHobbies.com, I knew full-well that the exterior appearance of this car would be a bit "off" as it was listed as having damaged decals. No worries, as the rest of the vehicle was intact and the decal damage (at first sight) wasn't anything that I could't deal with. Aside from that, this wasn't purchased to be a shelf queen, it was meant to run.
Out with the old...
To be honest, I do like to stock appearance of this car. If not for the decal issues, I would have kept it as-is. That said, I saw an opportunity to give it a custom look once I had run a few battery packs through it. After a few outings (and some side-by-side door-slamming with my son's 1970 Furious 7 Dodge Charger) some of those decals received additional damage and began to peel away. Knowing the inevitable was coming, I put some ideas into action and revamped the look of the body, converting it from a very cool drifter to an old-school muscle car. With how I plan on running this car, only time will tell how long it will stay in it's current shape. That said, for a small time and money investment, it's amazing what you can do with a few strips of pinstripe tape and some flat black paint.
A new look for my pony...
Pinstripe tape has been my go-to "quick fix" when it comes to adding a touch of detail to an R/C body or to give one of my vehicles a new look. What's your favorite go-to when it comes to customizing your radio-controlled machines?
