Without fail, the Redcat GEN8 is one of my favorite, go-to trail trucks. The driving performance is amazing and it’s hard to beat the price. Redcat is heading into the end of 2020 with a revamped GEN8 model, the Redcat GEN8 Scout II V2.
Most of the changes have taken place under the body, with the GEN8 V2 receiving enhanced durability on the front and rear axles and beefier portal gears. Another chassis enhancement is a smoother, center skidplate to reduce the potential for hangups. Another performance ehnancement is the inclusion of a 25kg Hexfly metal gear steering servo.
The rest of the GEN8 platform is retained with this model. Portal axles, a divorced transfer case, 73mm of ground clearance and 61-degrees of front approach angle and 39.5-degrees of departure angle, the GEN8 V2 is still set up to be a tremendous performer right out of the box.
Appearance-wise, the GEN8 V2 showcases an International Scout II body, just like the original GEN8. Two new colors, purple and green, replace the classic orange and blue, and the decals have been pared back to allow for easier customization. In fact, Redcat includes a variety of decals with the GEN8 V2, allowing you to customize this truck as soon as you pull it out of the box.
Another visual benefit of the GEN8 V2 is the addition of clear windows. While there’s no interior detailing on this rig, the addition of clear windows is an option that many GEN8 owners have wanted from the start, with many modding their rigs to achieve a more-realistic look.
