R/C Overhaul: Adding New Tires, Wheels, and Weight to the Carisma SCA-1E Lynx [Video]
While my SCX10 "Classic" overhaul project is nearing the end (or is it...), I've been turning my attention to the Carisma Scale Adventure SCA-1E Lynx. While this model and the SCA-1E platform are both quite capable out-of-the-box, there are a few elements that I felt needed improvement.
The overall light weight of this rig and smaller "Class 1"-style wheels/tires can cause a few hangups and issues when out on the trail. Don't get me wrong, the stock Lynx ORV will motor through just about anything that comes across its path, but it often needs a few whacks at it before conquering the day.
To that end, I picked up a set of Pro-Line Hyrax 1.9" tires which came pre-mounted on Pro-Line's Impulse Internal Bead-Loc Wheels. While this upgrade certainly helped ground clearance and traction, the issue with weight (or lack thereof) still existed.
Thankfully, Pro-Line offered up a solution and sent me a set of their Brass Brake Rotor Wheel Weights which are designed specifically for their plastic internal Bead-Loc wheels. With all of these pieces in place, the Lynx has been transformed into a solid trail and crawling rig that should run through obstacles like a hot knife through butter. For additional details on these upgrades, here's a quick video overview:
