Indoor Explorer: A Carisma Scale Adventure Lynx Shakedown [Video]

By: Tim Gluth

While the Carisma Scale Adventure Lynx is intended for outdoor exploration, it's also a solid machine when you want to unwind with some indoor driving. Using my DIY indoor crawling "course", I turned the Lynx loose to see what it could do.

Made of random wooden bits, this indoor setup is hardly scientific by any means. That said, it serves as a solid benchmark for most of my 1/10-scale vehicles and gives me an opportunity to examine approach angle, grip, torque, and suspension flex (among other things). Setting the Carisma Lynx up against this setup gave me an opportunity to size it up and directly compare it to other models in its class.

Out of the three 1/10-scale vehicles (Axial SCX10, Redcat Racing Everest GEN7, and Carisma Scale Adventure SCA-1E Lynx) that I've recently run through this wooden gauntlet, the Lynx does an admirable job with getting up, onto, and over the uneven, manmade terrain. While not the best performer (the Everest GEN7 holds that honor), the Lynx doesn't disappoint when it's able to find the grip needed to clamber up the somewhat slick wooden ramps.

Between this test and my handful of outdoor drives, the Lynx is a machine that I'm finding more and more enjoyable with every turn behind the controller. In the coming months, I'm hoping to put it through even more tests as summer rolls on.
