How to take an RTR vehicle and make it your own [Video]

By: Tim Gluth

If you're in a pinch and don't have the time necessary to do a kit build of a new vehicle or if you want to get out and play as quickly as possible, an RTR option may be your best bet. But don't think that you're stuck with a stock machine, even if you're new to the options and accessories scene.

Spend a few minutes on forums, social networks, and/or YouTube and see what others have done with their ready-to-run vehicles to make them as custom and unique as they are. A great example of a SCX10 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon RTR transformation that I've been paying close attention to is the one owned by Matthew of RCOverload.com.

Starting with a bone-stock package from Axial, he's methodically upgraded parts and added scale accessories to his Jeep to make it his own creation. Now that he's reached the end of his "mod build" phase, he is showing it off with a great video. As an added touch, he's mixed in a run-down of his upgrades, the thoughts and reasoning behind them, and some fun trail-running footage. If you've got a pre-made R/C car and want to give it a bit of personality, check out this video (and many others like it) for inspiration.
