The folks at Horizon Hobby aren’t afraid to try new things, especially if it draws people into the R/C hobby. Their latest endeavor is a unique way to build a truly one-of-a-kind radio-controlled machine without ever turning a wrench.
The HH Custom Shop, offers the opportunity to build a customized Axial SCX10 III trail rig with a variety of body, suspension, wheel, tire, and electronics options. Using a variety of Pro-Line and Spektrum components, there’s a good chance that no two R/C vehicles built from the HH Custom Shop will be the same.
Similar to the interactive “builder” tools found on full-size automaker websites, the HH Custom Shop walks you through the parts selection process, starting with a pre-assembled SCX10 III chassis (with straight axles), you can then select a body and color option, wheels, tires, ESC, motor, transmitter, receiver, battery, charger, and lights. If you already have some of these items laying around, you won’t need to add them to your custom build. But, if you’re looking for an all-in-one solution to let you hit the trail quickly, this is an interesting option.
The body options are currently limited to Pro-Line’s Toyota 4-Runner, Toyota Tacoma, and 2021 Ford Bronco bodies, and wheel and tire choices are also rather slim. That said, I’m interested in seeing how this concept might evolve if it becomes popular. Could we see bashers offered through the HH Custom Shop, or even expert-built racers? Only time will tell.
As an added bonus, Horizon Hobby is offering a free, one-year Horizon Hobby RC Club Elite membership (a $129.99 value) for custom vehicle orders. Learn more about the HH Custom Shop and get complete details on the membership offer at customrc.horizonhobby.com.
