Hands-on with the Traxxas TRX-4 Expedition Rack [Video]
When the Traxxas TRX-4 Sport was released, I immediately fell in love with the price of this model. The body, however, left a bit to be desired. While it's not the most eye-catching or inspiring R/C body on the market, it's still a solid option and has allowed me to drive this truck with a bit more freedom than some of the others in my collection.
At the same time that the TRX-4 Sport was announced, an array of accessories were also introduced for this model. Parts and pieces including a snorkel, jerry cans, a jack/lift, and other smaller items help to dress up the Sport's body a bit, but the accessory that really caught my attention was the Expedition Rack.
When mounted to the bed rails and roof of the TRX-4 Sport body, this piece of gear transforms the rig from an everyday trail runner into a search and rescue vehicle, or a wintertime explorer, or a multi-purpose work truck. In short, it drastically changes the look of this R/C crawler and opens up doors for future customization.
Two Expedition Rack options are available, one with a variety of accessories included (#8120X) and one without accessories (#8120). The only other difference, aside from what's included, is the price. You can save $12 if you opt for just the rack itself.
An Overview of the Traxxas TRX-4 Expedition Rack
After getting this rack installed, I am extremely happy with the visual change that it's given this rig. This opens up a new world of appearance upgrades for this machine and is a great way to give some life to this stock RTR body.
