Big Fun, Small Price. New Bright's 1/15 Vaughn Gittin Jr. Ford Bronco Rock Crawler
You never know where you’ll find your next hit of fun with this hobby. Sometimes, it’s experimentation and discovering a unique combination of visual and mechanical which come together to form a unique R/C ride. Other times it can be as simple as a stroll down the toy aisle at your local Walmart. Although I focus on hobby-grade radio-controlled vehicles, I’ve found a few hidden gems scattered throughout toy aisles.
Since fun is the name of the game, New Bright has rolled out a 1/15-scale crawler in collaboration with Vaughn Gittin Jr., a “Professional Fun-Haver”. Based on his 2017 King of the Hammers machine, “Brocky”, this Ford Bronco Rock Crawler replica features four-wheel drive, “extreme flex” suspension, a 2.4GHz radio system and a body which replicates the 1:1 off-road racer.
If you're familiar with New Bright bodies, you know they put quite a bit of effort and attention into the details. This model is no exception as it features scaled-down accessories and accents to capture the real-world feel and appeal of Vaughn's rumbling off-roader.
While the full-size Brocky is powered by a 427 crate motor, this smaller model has understandably less power under the hood. That’s not to say that it can’t compete. A 9.6V Li-Ion battery provides the juice to this crawler, and a USB-based charger makes refueling easy.

Priced at $29.97, this looks like a fun machine to play around with, and perhaps get some “younger folks” interested in the R/C hobby. Who knows, it may even spur some more in-depth projects and vehicle mash-ups.
The 1/15 Vaughn Gittin Jr. Ford Bronco Rock Crawler is available now at Walmart (online/in-store). Target, and Toys-R-Us appear to be carrying this model soon, too. Learn more at newbright.com.
