Axial SCX10 III 1987 Toyota SR5 RTR Trail Truck
If you've been waiting for Axial to release a new SCX10 III model with a fresh body style, your wish has been granted. The SCX10 III 1987 Toyota SR5 marks their first 1/10-scale Toyota-bodied release, which should be a welcome sight not only for Toyota fans, but also for fans of variety in the 1/10-scale trail truck scene.
Based on the SCX10 III platform, this new trail truck blends scale details with trail-tested components to deliver scale adventure enthusiasts a truck ready to tackle just about anything that crosses its path.
The Toyota SR5 body is made of durable polycarbonate and features several molded plastic details ranging from the grille to a protective exocage. Axial has partnered with Trail-Gear for several licensed aspects of this rig, including portal axle housings, rock sliders, and beadlock wheels.

Rather than dropping a Toyota SR5 body onto an SCX10 III chassis, Axial has designed this rig to be a true trail machine. From the front bumper to the rear of the cab, everything looks close to what you'd find on a 1:1 rig (save for a slight pinch on the front), however, you'll quickly discover some performance-minded details when you reach the rear of this rig.
The bed has been shortened or "bobbed" to reduce excess overhang, and it's also been dovetailed to allow for greater rear tire movement and articulation.
Another new feature of this rig is its clipless body-mounting system, which differs from Axial's previous SCX10 III attachment methods. With a rear tongue and front latch, you should be able to easily remove this body while out on the trail or at your workbench for easy access to the truck's internals.

Under the body, you'll find a layout that looks quite familiar to other SCX10 III releases. This version of the SCX10 III features a ladder-frame chassis, metal chassis and suspension links, oil-filled shocks, and Axial's single-speed LCXU transmission with dig functionality.
All told, this looks like an impressive package with a solid balance of visual detail and trail-tackling performance. And with a healthy aftermarket upgrade ecosystem, you should have no trouble making one of these machines your own.
