ARRMA Updates the Typhon BLX
If you’re looking for a radio-controlled buggy that’s built for fun, there are any number to choose from. One that has received some recent updates is ARRMA’s Typhon BLX, a ⅛-scale, 4-wheel drive, ready-to-run (RTR) buggy that has a number of high-end features packed into an affordable package.
Powered by a brushless motor (BLX 2050KV) and a 150A, 6S-capable ESC, this radio-controlled buggy won’t suffer from a shortage of “get up and go”. Staying on top of the power theme, this system is capable of handling 4 to 6 cell LiPo batteries. With that power source, this buggy claims to be capable of speed in excess of 60mph. Of course, with that power comes the need for excellent control, another area in which the Typhon BLX is well-equipped.
The radio system onboard Typhon BLX features an included Tactic TTX300 3-channel transmitter and TR326 3-channel receiver. Speaking from personal experience, the TTX300 transmitter ($39.98 on Amazon.com) feels great in the hand and has easy-to-understand adjustment knobs, allowing you to tune in the steering and throttle trim of your vehicle.
Getting down to the chassis, you’ll find various features that help give this vehicle durability and performance while remaining budget-friendly. Steering is controlled by an ADS-15M servo which has 15KG/cm (208oz/inch) of torque for smooth performance and precision handling.
The electronics in the Typhon BLX are waterproof, meaning you won’t need to slow down your fun if terrain gets a bit wet and messy. Oil-filled shocks with aluminum shock bodies give a pillow-soft ride and even look great while the buggy is standing still. Anodized aluminum shock mounts provide added stability and will limit flex in areas that you least desire it. The shaft-driven 4-wheel drive system gives you all-wheel power for any type of terrain. From backyard bashing to back road speed runs, there aren't many areas where this vehicle won’t thrive.
