A Ramblin' Roller: Pro-Line's PRO-MT 4x4 Monster Truck

By: Tim Gluth

There was more than R/C monster truck action taking place at Pro-Line’s Monster Truck-a-Palooza on October 14th. This event also served as the launch of a new 1/10-scale model from the folks at Pro-Line.

If you’ve been following their teasers, you knew something was on the horizon from the aftermarket body, tire, wheel, and accessory maker, but “what” wasn’t entirely clear. Now that the dust has settled, a new 1/10-scale radio-controlled monster truck has arrived. Meet the Pro-Line PRO-MT 4x4 Monster Truck.

Starting off, this new model is a pre-build roller, setting it apart from other monster truck options. Think of it as a hybrid of a hybrid, an assembled vehicle that you can add your own electronics to and customize the clear body shell. There’s still room for tinkering and exploration, but the bulk of the “build work” has already been completed for you.

Durability from the ground up.

After reviewing the details of this model, it’s clear that Pro-Line has designed this truck to withstand extreme driving conditions. If you’re into extreme bashing of your R/C machines, there are plenty of built-in measures to keep the PRO-MT 4x4 intact and rolling.

The chassis caught my eye first, as it features both aluminum and steel material in its construction. The underside of the Pro-Line PRO-MT 4x4 Monster Truck is aluminum, with a steel spine providing additional rigidity and support for chassis-first landings.

When it comes to cushioning landings, the PRO-MT is equipped with 16mm big bore shocks, complete with aluminum bodies and threaded adjustment rings. Pro-Line points out that these include the same internal components as their Pro-Spec Shocks, so you know they’re battle-tested and proven to perform.

Another eye-catcher is the pivot ball suspension that’s in-use for the front suspension. Attached to thick upper and lower control arms, the pivot balls are connected to Delrin pivot inserts, providing protection from high-impact action.

While you supply the power, this monster truck has been designed to accept a variety of motor options, including systems that are suited for ⅛-scale models. To drive that point home, MOD 1-sized gears are used in the drivetrain of the PRO-MT 4x4 and the front and rear ring and pinion gears are made out of high-strength steel.

With the capability to support these larger-scale motors systems (brushed or brushless) and up to 4S LiPo batteries, this truck appears to have durability through and through.

Beauty and brawn.

The team at Pro-Line knows how to design attractive bodies and the shell that’s supplied with the PRO-MT 4x4 is no exception. This clear, quad-cab pickup truck body is ready to transform into your own custom-painted creation. And as luck would have it, the good looks of this truck don’t stop at the body.

The PRO-MT 4x4 Monster Truck rides on Pro-Line’s Badlands MX28 tires, which are mounted to F-11 plastic wheels. Having been in the game for 35 years, these folks have developed a knack for pairing the perfect set of wheels and tires, and the set that’s included with this truck looks amazing.
