Traxxas releases LCG conversion kit for the 2wd Slash, but is it too late?

My first reaction after reading the announcement from Traxxas that they had released a LCG conversion kit for the 2wd Slash was, "Really?". Not that it isn't a smart move, but it seems to be a long time coming. With other options having been on the market for a while, what makes this kit the upper-hand compared to the competition? In my opinion, the price.
At less than $40 (RCDriver.com states $31.95) this is a very inexpensive way to add some handling performance to your basher. With the holidays fast approaching, this would make a nice stocking stuffer.
